About Us
A simple act of kindness sparked a movement. What began with a mother and son handing out hats has grown into H.U.G.S. from the Heart — a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving people experiencing homelessness throughout Greenville, SC.
Since 2021, we’ve reached more than 4,000 individuals, offering warmth, dignity, and hope. In 2024, we proudly extended our support to those affected by Hurricane Helene, because crisis has many faces — and compassion should meet every one of them.
Our Mission
No one chooses homelessness. Beyond the challenges of hunger and lack of shelter, many individuals feel unseen and forgotten. H.U.G.S. from the Heart exists to change that.
We provide drawstring bags filled with essential clothing and personal care items — hats, underwear, gloves, socks, hygiene supplies, and more. But our mission goes deeper than meeting physical needs. We want every person we serve to know they are seen, valued, and loved.
That’s why each hat we distribute is hand‑knit or crocheted. It’s a powerful reminder that a complete stranger cared enough to create something just for them. Every bag is assembled with dignity and delivered directly to individuals in shelters and throughout our community.
